Publications Update

After a long delay I managed to update my publication list! Here are the updates:

  1. The Universal Scalar Quantization paper has appeared in Trans. Info. Theory [1]. The entry is updated with bibliographic info and accurate bibtex.
  2. I presented three papers at ICASSP 2012 in Kyoto: on Depth Sensing [2], on a Compressive Phased-Locked Loop (PLL) [3] and on Pan-sharpening using Dictionary Learning [4]. The papers are now uploaded. I also realized that ICASSP 2012 has not appeared in IEEE Xplore yet!
  3. We have a new journal submission on our sparsity-constrained optimization work [5]. Sohail has put up a nice page with description and code on the algorithm.
  4. I updated entries of older papers to include the links to the corresponding proceedings page and the doi in the bibtex (where available).

New Opening at MERL

MERL is seeking qualified and high-caliber applicants for a Research Staff position in the Multimedia Group. The successful candidate will be expected to perform original research in the area of signal acquisition and sensing, with emphasis in compressive sensing and array processing. Further details are outlined below.

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct innovative research on sensing and signal acquisition emphasizing modern acquisition methods and compressive sensing, with applications in ultrasonic, radio, optical, or other sensing modalities.
  • Prepare patent disclosures on newly developed work and assist legal department in finalizing patent applications.
  • Transfer developed technology to business units through R&D labs in Japan including software, documentation and experimental results.
  • Propose new research directions in sensing and signal acquisition technology, and contribute to overall research agenda of the group.
  • Publish results in major international conferences and peer-reviewed journals, and maintain a presence in the academic community.

Qualifications:

  • Applicants are expected to hold a Ph.D. degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or closely related field.
  • Applicants with 2+ years of post-Ph.D. research experience are preferred. Exceptional candidates including recent Ph.D. graduates and post-doctoral researchers are strongly encouraged to apply.
  • Extensive signal processing background and understanding of sampling, sensing and signal acquisition technologies is required. Direct experience with compressive sensing is also required.
  • Experience with array processing and/or related acquisition systems is preferred.
  • Familiarity with related technologies such as dictionary learning, convex optimization, or greedy algorithms is also preferred.
  • Applicants must have a strong publication record demonstrating novel research achievements.
  • Excellent programming skills (C/C++, Matlab, etc) are required.
  • Excellent presentation, written and inter-personal communication skills are expected.

Binary Stable Embeddings for 1-Bit CS

Our paper on 1-Bit compressive sensing and binary stable embeddings has now been updated [1]. You can find it on arXiv or here. The new version strengthens some of the results and incorporates discussion on how our work relates to recent activity in the area since it first appeared. It turns out that 1-bit CS is a very rich and exciting topic, with many connections with diverse topics such as locality sensitive hashing and the logistic regression. You can find more details on 1-bit CS and the related topics on my research pages and on the Rice webpage dedicated to the topic.
